the right direction for Richardson ISD

Former teacher and mother of four

Sherry Moore Clemens grew up in San Angelo, Texas, where she attended public school from first grade through high school graduation. She met her husband, Trey, while attending Texas A&M University. After graduating with her Bachelor of Science, she and Trey were married in 2002. They relocated to Dallas, where she was employed by Region 10 ESC, working in the Head Start program. In her tenure at Region 10, she developed a love for teaching in the public school setting.

In 2004 Sherry began her first year teaching at Henderson Elementary in Forney ISD. In her six years there, she enjoyed teaching first and third grades and developing life-long relationships with students and staff. She was recognized as Teacher of the Year for Henderson Elementary in 2009. While teaching in Forney, Sherry also pursued her Master of Science in Educational Administration from Texas A&M University-Commerce and received her Principal Certification. Around the time of her graduation, she and Trey were also beginning to grow their family, and Sherry decided to take a step back from public education to stay home and raise their two children. They bought a home in highly-ranked Richardson ISD, and Sherry pursued part-time employment as an adjunct professor supervising student teachers at Texas A&M University-Commerce.

In 2013 Sherry decided to start on a new career path helping small businesses with social media and marketing. Now a successful marketing firm located in Richardson and in its 9th year, Sherry’s company continues to help businesses of all sizes with marketing strategy and web design.

In 2015 Sherry and Trey added to their family through adoption when they brought their daughter home from China. A few years later, they adopted from China again, welcoming their youngest son to their family.

While juggling the balance of mothering four children and her career for the last fourteen years, Sherry also spends time volunteering outside of the home. She has taken on various volunteer roles within RISD schools and local PTA chapters as well as served in ministries through her church, where she and Trey have been members for over eleven years. In her spare time, Sherry enjoys traveling, learning to play the guitar, and every Saturday in the fall you’ll find her watching her beloved Aggies play football.

A message for

RISD Parents

If elected, I will ensure that your child has the excellent academic education they deserve. As a former teacher, I understand that literacy and numeracy are the building blocks of academic knowledge that will ensure RISD children are ready for the future. Future-ready skills, from the building blocks of math, science, and reading in the primary grades to advanced courses and innovative career and technology programs in high school, will put RISD back on the map of those schools that succeed in creating opportunities for children to thrive in 2022 and beyond. I also have a heart for ALL students, including those with special needs. After seeing firsthand how my children have struggled due to ill-informed RISD policies, I have done my homework and understand the importance of listening to parents and caregivers of every student. All children deserve an education that meets them where they are and helps them become all they can be. I also understand the importance of listening to teachers and supporting them with the tools to help every student succeed.

With the voices of parents and teachers behind me and my hope to unite with even more stakeholders ahead, I truly believe in the good of public education and the futures of all of RISD’s children. Supporting me is a vote for the right direction- a vote for the future of academic excellence in RISD. It’s a vote for a hard-working mother of four who will commit to making sure your school board listens to its teachers, parents, and taxpayers – the mom, the dad, the grandmother, the neighbor, the caregiver – the stakeholders who have for too long been silenced.

RISD Teachers

I see you. I can only imagine how hard your road has been the last few years, and especially the last few months. I promise to come alongside you, to listen to you, to take your concerns and make the changes needed to set you and your students up for the best possible outcomes. I’d love to meet with you, to talk with you and hear stories of both what’s working and what’s not. I will do everything possible to make sure your voice is heard. I’m so grateful for you and all you do for our students!
